CareerPoint Marin, the College of Marin, and the Marin Building Trades Council celebrated the graduation of 14 students from the MultiCraft Core Curriculum on Saturday, April 7th. The need for trained workers in the trades is urgent. Not only are jobs in the trades, which include electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, mechanics, and construction managers, projected for growth in California, there is an even greater need in Sonoma and Napa counties for trained trade workers as a result of the October 2017 wildfires. As part of the program, the students had 120 hours of instruction at the College of Marin, Indian Valley campus in Novato, as well as visited apprenticeship training centers in the East Bay.   The course provides math instruction as applied to the trades, gives students an overview of a variety of trade careers, and deepens the participants’ understanding of the skills and abilities needed to become an apprentice. CPR and OSHA 10 certificates are earned during the course. Graduates of the course are prepared to pursue apprenticeships and begin a career in the trades. Pre-apprentice training such as that available from the North Bay Trades Introduction Program is a viable pathway for many low-income, underserved and under-represented workers, at-risk youth, women and veterans to enter well established industry approved apprenticeship programs. Congratulations to the students, and thank you to our trade partners! If you’re interested in learning more about the program, contact CareerPoint Marin. Our next cohort begins at Santa Rosa Junior College in May 2018.
